If You Think Work Hard and Play Hard Is Not Practical, You Haven’t Really Tried

How many people do you know who lament the stress of their jobs? Even if they work a job they dislike, they could come home at the end of the day lacking the energy or enthusiasm to accomplish anything. They retire to bed and get ready for the same schedule the next day. The last thing on their minds is the idea of working hard and playing hard. Perhaps you too have these feelings occasionally!

It’s perfectly normal for many people to not find joy in the routine duties of daily life. We were impatient to grow up as kids since it felt like it would take forever. Then one day you became an adult, which came with obligations, bills, and employment (though at least you had control over your bedtime).

“Work hard, play hard” is crucial for human development.

Nearly 1,400 Queen’s University students participated in a survey that Dr. Lonnie Aarssen performed for a study that was published in The Open Psychology Journal. It demonstrated a link between legacy and leisure pursuits. In other words, those who were inclined to work hard also showed a significant need for enough fun and downtime.

The “work hard, play hard” mentality, in Dr. Aarssen’s opinion, offers something very important to human existence. We are conscious of and anxious about our own impermanence, she remarked, unlike any other species. “Legacy drive and leisure drive may help to explain why we are able to withstand this anxiety. With the help of these two urges, our ancestors were able to divert their attention from their own impermanence, which helped them deal with their worry and lessen its possible detrimental effects on reproductive success.

But why is it so hard to get the right balance?

Sometimes the phrase “work hard, play hard” conjures up images of gruelling workdays followed by frequent all-night parties. But this is also not a healthy way of life; your body needs appropriate sleep, and we all know that drinking too much alcohol is never advised.

Firstly, working hard is not a bad thing. It means that you are being productive to achieve certain goals (which ultimately will lead to affording your lifestyle.)

The “playing hard” part relates to whatever you can do to promote more enjoyment and relaxation in your life. Many people translate this to mean sitting in front of the television for a few hours before eventually going to bed.

To be quite honest, I usually have no idea what is being discussed when it comes to the newest or most well-liked TV shows. I have never bought a television and I don’t watch television. And I’m not against television; I’ve just never found it to be mentally stimulating or calming.

The typical American watches more than 34 hours of television per week. They engage in it since it seems to be the simplest form of relaxation. But in reality, you still feel exhausted when you wake up. This is due to the fact that watching television reduces the amount of melatonin your brain produces, which is the hormone that causes sleep.

By maximizing your free time, you will feel more revitalized, which will lead to being more productive, and therefore make you better able to achieve your goals! Life will also feel more fulfilling than simply “working all the time.”
