THE SECRET TO INSANE PRODUCTIVITY

When discussing the key to productivity, we frequently place an excessive amount of emphasis on strategies. That is not to suggest that tactics don’t have a role; they do. But it’s crucial to maintain focus on the overall plan throughout.

What’s the strategy?

Move swiftly and effectively from beginning to end. That is what it means to be “productive.”

MOST PEOPLE AREN’T PRODUCTIVE BECAUSE OF THESE REASONS.

  1. They attempt to multitask excessively.
  2. They get side-tracked easily.
  3. They allocate their time poorly and overbook.

BUT HERE ARE THE REAL REASONS PEOPLE AREN’T PRODUCTIVE.

  1. They get entangled down in the details and lose sight of their original objectives
  2. They get side-tracked easily.
  3. They don’t know what is dependent upon what: what needs to be finished first, second, third, fourth, etc.

The first step in truly putting practises in place that will move you from where you are to where you want to be is understanding the true risks of “not getting things done.”

So, what’s the secret to insane productivity? It involves knowing what has to be done before you begin.

Don’t take this the wrong way: As BGO creative director Mark Beeching would say, “You can’t steer a stationary ship.” You must start to actually comprehend how to improve at all.

What I’m trying to say is that along the way, you can be really helpful to yourself by planning out your work sessions and knowing exactly what you need to do and how you’re going to do it.

When we sit down and have to ask ourselves, “OK, where do I start?” we squander a lot of energy. Instead, spend the evening prior to answering that question so that when you sit down to work the following day, you are already aware of what has to be accomplished. For example, “I need to finish these two reports, I need to research this strategy, I need to create this document, and I need to send this e-mail.”

It will take you less time to figure out where you’re flying to and how you’re going to land if you can plan your trajectory more thoroughly in advance.

You’ve resolved the uncertainty. You then have the freedom to carry out your tasks.
